In the quilting world, fabric seems to get all the fan-mail.
But what about those quilting rulers sitting over there on your quilting tool shelf? Where’s the love for those guys?
Every now and then we go through our rulers, give them a little polish, and thank them for their awesomeness (WARNING: we have a thing for rulers!).
Surely we’re not the only one who geeks out over a good quilting ruler!
So today, let’s spend just a little time nerding out about some of those amazing quilt rulers!
(We have a list of these rulers with their links at the bottom of this post.)

The Basics
Let’s start with the basics: the 6 1/2″ square + the 6 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ rectangle.
We use these 2 rulers on every. single. quilt. Enough said.

The Half Rectangle Triangle Quilt Ruler
Now it’s time to start getting fancy! The HRT ruler was one of the first rulers we started to work with when we branched out beyond the world of straight-edge cutting.

So far we’ve created 3 different quilts just by changing up how we use this one quilt ruler.
The V Block Ruler
Have you met Deb Tucker’s V Block Quilt Ruler? Well then you’re in for a fun treat!

If you’ve been following us for the past few months, then you know we’ve been swooning over Deb Tucker’s V Block Ruler.
The V Block ruler is perfect for those of you looking to branch out from squares + rectangles. This ruler creates cute triangles and then it has a nifty trim-down feature that pretty much guarantees squared up V Block squares.
Hexagon Templates

Hexagons are simple, stunning and a fun way to showcase your fabric!

Equilateral Triangle Ruler
We’ve made quite a few Triangle Quilts! They’re fan favorites, easy to whip together, and they always turn out great!

We’ve created gold + black, scarlet + gray, blue + white, and hot pink, navy + turquoise triangle quilts – just to name a few.
And you can get the free step-by-step process we use for our triangle quilt ruler by clicking here.
The Measuring Gauge
Ok, this little ruler is small, yet mighty! The Measuring Gauge helps us verify seam allowances for those times you really need accuracy.

Fons + Porter Fussy Cut Templates
There’s nothing worse than when you’ve accidentally cut your fabric pattern off! That’s where the fussy cut templates serve us so well!

Use one of the various templates to fussy up your fabric, and presto! Your fabric is centered up perfectly!

The Fons + Porter Binding Tool
We use the Fons + Porter Binding Tool on ALL of our quilts! This little guy gives you precise accuracy for closing up your binding ends.

Add-A-Quarter Ruler – 6″ + 12″
This ruler is our newest addition to our quilt ruler collection!

The add-a-quarter ruler adds 1/4″ to your foundation paper piecing fold so that you can accurately trim your excess fabric.
We love love love this ruler!
