Woodlands Window Panes – Another Lottie’s Squares Custom Quilt Order

Hi!  We may have been quiet on our blog but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been working!  We are so excited to show you the progress on a very special custom quilt order for a very special little boy!

Woodlands Quilt 1

We are calling this one Woodlands Window Panes.  Our inspiration came from our client’s request for a twin sized quilt for a little boy – a quilt he could grow into and keep forever.   This quilt will be a gift to a family who frequently vacations in the North Carolina Mountains.  Our client requested a plaid flannel back, so of course we had to use a Robert Kaufman Mammoth Plaid.  It was hard to pick one out of so many beautiful options, but our client settled on this beautiful plaid:

We love the soft blue, grey, red and cream colors.  Once we had the back figured out, we had to design our quilt top.  Art Gallery Fabrics was our main source for woodsy prints for our patchwork (a list is on this Friday’s Fabric Friday).  We also used a varied mix of Cotton + Steel and Robert Kaufman prints to create a beautifully coordinated palette.

Our client loved our “Lottie’s Squares” pattern and the 4” Checkerboard.  So we presented several pattern variation options to her we were very excited when she chose the “Windowpanes”!

We cut over 200 4 1/2” Squares, 4 ½” Strips, and 5 ½” Strips and got to work making our 5” finished blocks.  We used Robert Kaufman’s Kona in Bone for the strips.

We then created larger blocks by piecing 4 blocks together to make the window panes.  Once we had our big stack or window panes, the top started coming together pretty quickly.

This top is bigger than our usual quilts measuring at 70” x 80”, and we are so pleased with how it turned out!  We loved all the fabrics and the “I-spy” woodland creatures that pop up here and there.

We have already pin basted this quilt together and it is now in mom’s hands being quilted away.  We should have a progress post in the next week.

Thanks for stopping by!
